Yanakie is a small, coastal township and district on the Yanakie Isthmus in South Gippsland, Victoria. It is a Koori name from the Gunai language interpreted as meaning "between waters". Yanakie is located just outside the entrance to Wilson's Promontory and is the perfect location to launch your exploration of The Prom.
Yanakie is a beautiful destination in its own right and a great spot to capture colourful sunrises and sunsets just outside your door, if like me you are staying at the Yanakie Caravan Park.
I visited this area with a group of photographers from the Victorian Photography Collective and we used the Yanakie Caravan Park as our base to explore this beautiful and pristine region.
This sheltered inlet is a pleasant setting with its low landscapes of marshes framed by the spectacular backdrop of the granite peaks of Wilsons Promontory in the distance. Apart from photography it is also a top fishing and swimming spot, it is fantastic for bird watching, bush walking, or simply admiring the unspoilt spectacular scenery of the southern coast area.
