I visited the busy and colourful Damnoen Saduak Floating Markets while I was in Bangkok for the ASTW Conference. They are located about an hour out of the city. We boarded a long-boat and the roar of the engine marked the start of our journey down the narrow canals. We passed small wooden houses on stilts and shops selling souvenirs along the banks. We cruised along the winding waterways and hit top speed when there were no other boats in the canals. Once we reached the centre of the market it was lunchtime and all the action ramped up with people selling everything from fresh fruit to barbecued meat on their floating restaurants. It was overcrowded, noisey, colourful and exciting all at the same time. I just loved all the energy and the wonderful characters selling their products.
