Instagram feature by Parks Victoria

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

Thank you to Parks Victoria @parksvic for featuring my image of the Pink Salt Lake at Westgate Park. on their Instagram gallery.

This heart shape was created by a branch in the water and it’s reflection. The natural pink phenomenon happens when there are very high salt levels, high temperatures, increased sunlight and lack of rainfall. The pink pigment is created by algae growing in the salt crust, which is responding to the extremely high salt levels. So you really couldn’t have more perfect conditions to get a pink lake in Melbourne right now.

Check out their gallery on Instagram @parksvic to see features of great images of Victoria's Parks by talented photographers and instagramers.
