King Valley Balloon Festival

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

On the Queesns Birthday long weekend the King Valley Balloon Festival welcomed the Van Gogh balloon from the Netherlands with support from Visit Victoria. The balloon is a 3D representation Vincent Van Gogh’s 1887 “Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat”. It is the most intricate piece of flying art in the world with brush strokes faithfully reproduced from the original oil on canvas artwork and is amazing to see in real life.

A family favourite was the Brown Brothers Night Glow event in the late afternoon on Saturday 8th. Imaginations with tethered balloons glowing in time to music just after sunset. There was a variety of entertainment, food and drink available.

My favourite was the mass ascension on Sunday morning with approximately 20 balloons took place, with the balloons flying towards Oxley and beyond. We jumped in the car and followed their journey. I loved all the colour and action of the take off, we didn't know ether to look first.
