Melbourne Docklands and Bolte Bridge

Updated: Feb 15, 2020

These images were taken at sunset from Harbour Esplanade at Melbourne Docklands looking towards the Bolte Bridge.

The Docklands was once Melbourne’s largest and busiest port, but by the late 1980s, it had become a derelict industrial wasteland. With inner-city living becoming more popular and Melbourne’s population growing, the Victorian Government saw an opportunity to extend the western edge of Melbourne’s central business district and reconnect the city to its historical waterfront. It has now become a popular entertainment zone for Melbournians.

This last image is looking down William Street towards Southbank. In the golden hour this gold building caught my eye as it glistened in the distance in stark contrast to the rest of the gloomy city on a cold and windy spring day. The Prima Pearl tower is a residential skyscraper and is the fourth–tallest building in Melbourne and the sixth–tallest building in Australia.
