Point King & Millionaires Walk, Portsea

Updated: Feb 15, 2020

If you walk to the end of Point King Road in Portsea, you’ll find a hidden path leading to the wooden stairs down to Point King Beach. There is a pretty sandy beach tucked below the Portsea mansions with gorgeous private jetties and boat sheds scattered along the beach.

On the way to the beach check out the monument commemorating the first hoisting of the Union Jack in 1802 as Britain took possession of the area (now Port Phillip Bay).

I arrived at about 6 pm to explore the location for the best compositions for my images and to take a peek at the homes and gardens on the cliff-top of Millionaires Walk a 1.5 km round trip between Portsea and Sorrento.

I wanted to make the most of the golden hour, sunset and the blue hour to capture this location in the best light. For a very quiet beach there was a fair bit of activity on the water with ships and the Sorrento Sea Ferries regularly sailing past.
